The Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) is a small highly infectious RNA that encodes no proteins, but causes devastating impacts to the root & leaf development, the flower yield, and the cannabinoid production of infected cannabis sativa plants.

We developed a proprietary workflow to extract the HLVd RNA viroid from the plant root tips. Since the HLVd viroid replicates within the plant cell nucleus, our protocol utilizes mechanical, chemical, and enzymatic extraction techniques to ensure complete lysis of both the plant cells and the plant cell nucleus. This minimizes the possibility for false negatives. Our custom designed HLVd qPCR test is highly specific and highly sensitive. We perform each test in duplicate, run a sample quality control, and quantify the HLVd viroid concentration to assist in biocontainment management procedures.
